CTA Monthly Note for August 2020 – September 2020

This post covers what the UNDP-GEF Kura II Project has accomplished during August 2020 and what are the plans for September 2020

August 2020 we have

  • Produced the second edition of the comics book
  • Hold meeting with Georgian company Mindworks on developing on-line educational materials based on Kura Box for both countries
  • Finalized the draft report for the international experiences in using differentiated tariff in water management
  • Conducted assessment field mission to Qakh-Balakan region for the installation of the online groundwater monitoring stations in Azerbaijan
  • Finalized the 10th campaign for E-Flow in the Kura River basin in Azerbaijan and Georgia
  • Supported MENR with developing the updated GIS database and conduct training for the staff on using the database in Azerbaijan
  • Finalized the constructed wetland with gravel and stones in Hajigabul, Azerbaijan and made a field visit to assess the works prior to filling
  • Finalized the construction of the cable network to supply the intake pump station with electricity from the Solar panel system in Krtsanisi park in Georgia
  • Provide additional inputs for Hydro Heroes mobile app
  • Finalized the report on the international experiences in using differentiated tariff in water management
  • Finalized the report on the road map to implement the differentiated tariff in water management in Azerbaijan
  • Prepared COVID based no-cost extension in line with Project Steering Committee decision
  • Finalized the social marketing campaign materials distributed to Focal Point Ministries
  • Met with EUWI+ and SEIS with AZ MENR to discuss the Azerbaijan Action Plan for Water Management 2020-2022

September 2020 we will

  • Deliver the translated report on the international experiences in using differentiated tariff in water management and report on the road map to implement the differentiated tariff in water management in MENR Azerbaijan
  • Hold meetings with Georgian company Mindworks on developing on-line educational materials based on Kura Box for both countries to approve finalized videos for school children and teachers
  • Conduct beta testing of Hydro-Heroes mobile app prior to launch
  • Finalize the procurement to purchase and install the Aquaponic system in Azerbaijan, delayed due to lack of qualified bidders
  • Finalize the procurement for the intake pump station and a groundwater intake gallery for the fish farm system in Krtsanisi Park and collect offers, delayed due to lack of qualified bidders
  • Submit COVID based no-cost extension to GEF in line with Project Steering Committee decision
  • Hold meeting to present project works in Krtsanisi Park with MEPA, NGOs, UNDP CO, and other stakeholders
  • Hold final Regional Working Group for Ground and Surface Water Assessment 10 September
  • Hold final Regional Working Group for Shared Water Quality Indicators 28 September
  • Hold Webinars to present Pollution Abatement Prefeasibility Studies to Ministries, similar companies, and potential financiers/donors 23 September for Georgia
  • Hold Webinars to present Pollution Abatement Prefeasibility Studies to Ministries, similar companies, and potential financiers/donors 25 September for Azerbaijan
  • Hold Environmental Flow Meetings with national and international experts for Georgia 14 September and for Azerbaijan 15 September
  • Finalize comic books and social marketing campaigns pending approval from Focal Point Ministries
  • Continue to post actively on all project social media accounts and emphasize empowered awareness raising
