CTA Monthly Note for February 2020

This post covers what the UNDP-GEF Kura II Project has accomplished during February 2020 and what are the plans for March 2020
In February 2020 we have:
- Conducted the 4th Regional Working Group Meeting on Water Quantity Management in Baku, Azerbaijan on 3 February 2020
- Conducted the 7th NPAG Meeting in Georgia on 7 February 2020
- Conducted the 7th NPAG Meeting in Azerbaijan on 14 February 2020
- Held an ad hoc Project-Ministry coordination meeting with MENR with H. E. Minister Babayev and UNDP GEF RTA Vladimir Mamaev, with follow-up meeting with MENR Communications Team
- Conduct the 3rd Block of the training on Environmental Permitting and Enforcement on 10-14 February 2020
- Conduct the 3rd Block of the training on Cleaner Production on 17-21 February 2020
- Conduct the 3rd Block of the training on Economic Modeling on 24-27February 2020
- Met with the newly appointed Direct of the United Water Supply Company of Georgia
- Nearly completed of the Hajigabol Constructed Wetland excavation
- Meet with Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture in Georgia to decide River Restoration activities
- Meet with the Amelioration Company of Georgia to finalize report on tariff structure for Georgia Water Services
- Developing RPA for Aquaponics for Azerbaijan, pending PSC approval
- Posting RFQ for HydroHeroes App in partnership with IDEA and AzerSu
- Continuing development of Social Marketing Campaign for water conservation in Georgia and Azerbaijan, including a video for use of Novrus “Water Tuesday” video
- Training for Kura Box and Modules for select schools in Baku (Postponed)
- Finalizing Best Available Technologies Report for Main Polluting Sectors
- Exchange Mission for NEA to train specialist in AZ Hydromet regarding concentration of pesticides in water (Postponed)
- Investigation of sites for online ground water monitoring system in both countries (Postponed)
- Prepared 2 video modules for the IW:LEARN/GWP MOOC – Online course – including Kura Basin Case Study
- Promoted Hajigabol Constructed Wetlands for International Wetlands Day
- Developed video for awareness raising for rational water use by Gori Teachers as part of demonstration project
In March 2020 we will:
- Hold Regional Working Group Meeting for Water Quality Indicators to be held in Tbilisi 4 March 2020 (Postponed)
- Training for Kura Box and Modules for select schools in Baku (Postponed -Pending)
- Attending EU Water Policy Dialog for Georgia under EUWI+ 5 March in Tbilisi
- Exchange Mission for NEA to train specialist in AZ Hydromet regarding concentration of pesticides in water (Postponed -Pending)
- Hiring and onboarding of Georgian National Coordinator
- Finish excavation works at the CW in Hajiqabul and start lining the main basin of the wetland
- Conducting Environmental Flow Missions in Georgia and Azerbaijan to Aragvi, Elijan Chay and Samkir Chay 6-8 March (Pending)
- Participate in World Water Day, 23 March Event in Gori, Georgia in Demonstration Project for Municipal Water (Pending)
- Flood Risk Management Training in Tbilisi Georgia 24-25 March (Pending, likely Postponed)
- The regular inspections of the construction works at the Constructed Wetland site in baby Hajigabul Lake in Shirvan, Azerbaijan including installation of lining
- Site visit to Georgian River Restoration with international expert (Postponed)
- Receive Report on National Water Strategy and Institutional Structure for Azerbaijan
- Receive Sectoral Pollution Abatement Plans for Dairy, Tanneries, and Slaughterhouses
- Receive Draft pre-feasibility study for main hotspot for both countries Poultry Georgia and Lachin Tannery
- Receive bids for Hydro-heroes App and Aquaponics and initiate contracting
- Hire Expert to conduct desk review of River Restoration site in Georgia
- Investigation of sites for online ground water monitoring system in both countries (Pending)
- Contracting of artist for Comic books about water management issues
- Provide all documentations and respond to all inquiries related to the UNDP GEF Performance Audit of IRH
- Initiate Contingency Planning for Project Completion in light of COVID-19, including travel and meeting restrictions as of 5 March
