CTA Monthly Note for September 2019

This blog post covers what the UNDP-GEF Kura II Project has accomplished during September 2019 and what are the plans for October 2019
In September 2019 we have:
- Received confirmation that the No Cost Extension for 6 months has been granted to the UNDP-GEF Kura II Project
- CTA briefed the UNDP CO Resident Representatives in Azerbaijan and Georgia on project activities and discussed linked communication strategy
- Held training in The Principles of Cleaner Production for Environmental Inspectors with overall 38 participants on 9-13 September 2019 in Azerbaijan (21 participants) and Georgia (17 participants)
- Held training in Hydro-Economic Modeling with overall 31 participants on 9-13 September 2019 in Azerbaijan (17 participants) and Georgia (15 participants)
- Held Kick-off Meeting on Environmental Inspection and Environmental Audit to discuss Pollution Abatement Plans demonstration project in Azerbaijan and Georgia
- Hosted National Project Advisory Group Meetings on 16 September 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan with 11 participants and on 20 September 2019 in Tbilisi, Georgia with 8 participants
- Hosted Regional Working Group meeting on Shared Water Quality Indicators on 17 Sep. 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan with 6 meeting participants and Regional Working Group meeting on Water Resources Management on 19 September 2019 in Tbilisi, Georgia with 9 participants.
- Developed the Facility Audit Check List and Baseline Monitoring Program for polluting industries in both countries
- Held the 2nd GIS training in Azerbaijan for 25 participants on 23-24 September
- Prepared for the opening of the demonstration project on Rational Water Use in the Municipal sector in Gori, Georgia
- Held the Opening Ceremony for the Rational Water Use in Agriculture Sector Drip Irrigation Pilot Site in at Jafarkhan Amelioration Station Training Facility, Saatli, Azerbaijan with 37 participants on 24 September
- Prepared for H2Otel Trainings in Azerbaijan for Public Private Partnerships
- Developed a concept note on the UNDP-GEF Kura II project as one of the GEF best practices was developed and sent to IW secretariat
- Visited UNDP IRH to meet with Partnerships and Communications Teams about Social Marketing Campaign, and to meet with GEF Counterparts and others in the Regional Hub, and attended Women’s Security Awareness Trainingswith UNDP Security
In October 2019 we will:
- Hold the Opening Ceremony for the Educational Awareness Campaign for Rational Water Use in the Municipal Sector “Water for All” with NGO ED on 2 October in Gori, Georgia
- Training on the Application of Drip Irrigation Method for Rational Water Use in Agriculture Sector for farmers in Azerbaijan and Georgia
- Conduct training block III on River Ecology on 7-11 October in Azerbaijan and Georgia
- Organize the Midterm Review Workshops on Environmental Flow Methodology Application in Azerbaijan and Georgia
- Conduct H2Otel Water Saving Awards kickoff training on October 9 in Azerbaijan
- Hold training block II on Pollution Abatement on 14-18 October in Azerbaijan and Georgia
- Conduct trainings on Women and Water in Hajigabul and Saatli, Azerbaijan with State Committee on Woman, Family and Children
- Hold the GIS trainings for Water Managers on 21-25 October in Azerbaijan (Block III) and Georgia (Block I)
- Present the UNDP-GEF Kura Project as a case study for the GEF International Waters TDA/SAP Methodology at the International River Symposium in Brisbane Australia and serve on a panel for GEF IW Best Practices
- Host the Opening ceremony for the Drip Irrigation Demonstration Project for Rational Water Use in Agriculture Sector on 29 October in Kakheti Georgia
- Finalize installation of drip irrigation system within the in Rational Water Use in Agriculture Sector in Tsalka, Georgia
- Finalize the evaluation of the technical offers for installing the online monitoring system for groundwater in the Alazani-Iori basin and award the contract to the winning company
- Regional training conducted by International Groundwater Research and Assessment Center, under UNESCO, on Transboundary Groundwater Monitoring in on 30-31 October, Baku Azerbaijan for representatives from Azerbaijan and Georgia
- Hold training block II on Water Law Enforcement on 28 Oct-1 Nov in Azerbaijan and Georgia
- Updating Project Web Page (http://www.kura-river.org) with IW:LEARN and GRID Arendal
