Elchin Mammadov, National Project Coordinator and Hajar Huseynova, Regional Project Analyst of the Kura II Project met the Minister at the site and briefed him about the steps regarding the restoration of Baby Hajigabul Lake. It has been informed that for the treatment of raw sewage discharges into the baby Hajigabul Lake from residential houses it is planned to build constructed wetland. The constructed wetland playing biofilter role, is going to treat organic and household waste to the Lake. Such facility will be built in Azerbaijan for the first time by the Kura II Project. The site was viewed by Mr. Babayev and two Deputy Ministers Mr. Firdovsi Aliyev and Mr. Rauf Hajiyev and other MENR colleagues. Elchin Mammadov has informed that the site was selected and surveyed by the entire Kura II team over the last year with the support provided by the Regional Ecology Office of MENR in Shirvan.

H.E. Mr. Babayev asked about the technical specifications of the engineering facility, the entire process of the removal of suspended solid substances and treatment process and he was briefed that the treatment process will be consisted of the several stages (mechanical and biological) and the entire infrastructure will be built to that end. The local reed bushes might be used for the wastewater purification. It was noted that the treatment facility will be serving for about 100-200 houses.

The design of the constructed wetland will be drafted by the Kura II Project International River Ecology Expert and further will be shared with the ministry. The local company will be selected for the construction of this facility.

Additionally, Kura II Project's awareness raising campaign and landscaping activities has been highlighted by the Kura II Team. The Minister Babayev highly appreciated all efforts done by the Kura II Project and wished good luck.
