UNDP-GEF Kura II: Advancing IWRM Across the Kura River Basin

Online Learning Platform Launch

on February 18, 2021, UNDP-GEF Kura II Project organized a virtual zoom meeting to present the Digital Learning Platform to wider audience.

Baku, February 18, 2021 –  the online learning platform available at http://water.envdevelopment.org in three languages: Azerbaijani, Georgian and English.  UNDP-GEF Kura II Project organized a virtual zoom meeting to present this platform to wider audience.

This digital learning platform is part of the project activities to promote Rational Water Use in Municipal Sector and to raise awareness among the school students and general public about the importance of saving water resources of Azerbaijan and Georgia.  

This online platform is collaboration of UNDP-GEF Kura II Project, ED NGO, and Mindworks company. The platform is supported by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan, and IDEA NGO.  

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, representative from the Ministry of Education, representatives of UNDP CO, relevant NGOs and representatives of schools. In his opening speech, the Deputy minister expressed the importance of rational water use as one of the main pillars for the new national water resources plan of Azerbaijan and such online platform will be a good tool for raising the public awareness on water conservation and use it efficiently. He expressed his gratitude to UNDP for its support to the ministry in all aspects and wishes more success to the Kura II project.

The meeting presenters highlighted the main features of this online platform that includes animated video and reading materials covering five thematic topics for schoolteachers, students and local community as different target groups:

1.         What are the rivers and river basins

2.         Climate change and water

3.         Rational water use

4.         Ecosystem services of water; water and life

5.         Water quality

The online training courses for teachers were developed to guide them on how to present these five topics in the classes, prepare learning materials on them and engage students. While the students training courses were prepared for various grade level students with quizzes attached to each course and certification. Additionally, there are courses for local community who can also get basic information on how to reduce municipal water consumptions in our daily use. 

All materials in this platform are open to public with the possibility to get certificate of participation.
