UNDP-GEF Kura II: Advancing IWRM Across the Kura River Basin

River Restoration Consultation Meeting III 30 May 2018

The third meeting on the River Restoration Consultation Meeting in Georgia was held at UNDP/GEF Kura II Tbilisi Training Center on 30 May 2018, with the participation of various representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia, agricultural water use sector, universities, Kura II team members and experts.

Chaired by Dr. Mary M. Matthews, Kura II Chief Technical Advisor and Regional Project Coordinator and Mr. Ahmed A. Elseoud, Kura II Senior Capacity Building Expert, the meeting was dedicated to the River Restoration demonstration project, which Kura II intends to carry out. The meeting involved various suggestions and proposals of the possible sites for river restoration, existing environmental problems at these sites and what could be done to resolve them, with sustainability and long-term wider application in mind.

Resulting from the meeting and discussions, the participants agreed on the sites to be inspected during the planned field trips to check their suitability for the demonstration project. The field trips themselves were carried out in the couple of days following the meeting.
