UNDP-GEF Kura II: Advancing IWRM Across the Kura River Basin

Rational Water Use in Municipal and Irrigation Sectors I 30 November 2017

The meeting on the Rational Water Use in Municipal and Irrigation Sectors, held at UNDP/GEF Kura II Tbilisi Training Center on 30 November 2017, was attended by representatives from Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia, National Environmental Agency, municipal water supply sector, agricultural water use sector, universities, hydropower sector, Kura II team members and experts.

Chaired by Dr. Mary Matthews, Kura II Chief Technical Advisor and Regional Project Coordinator, together with the national experts, the meeting covered supply and demand management issues and the methods of interlinking the involved sectors with the aim of optimizing water use in the region.

During the meeting, the participants overviewed the international best practices on Water Supply and Demand management and the use of Mathematical models, the current national regulatory framework related to rational water use in different sectors, and the municipal water supply and sanitation systems in Georgia.
