UNDP-GEF Kura II: Advancing IWRM Across the Kura River Basin

River Restoration Consultation Meeting II 17 November 2017

Another River Restoration Consultation Meeting was held on 17 November 2017 at UNDP/GEF Kura II Tbilisi Training Center facilities.

The purpose of the meeting, facilitated by Dr. Mary Matthews, Kura II Chief Technical Advisor and Regional Project Coordinator, and Mr. Ahmed A. Elseoud, Senior Capacity Building Expert UNDP/GEF Kura II project, was defined as a discussion of the proposals on the most suitable sites in Georgia for conducting river restoration activities based on the recommendations of the working group on the River Restoration. The meeting included a presentation on the international best practices on river restoration projects and planning process, and a discussion of various possible suitable sites and methods for river restoration.

The meeting was concluded with a decision to undertake another field trip to possible demo-project sites.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia, National Environmental Agency, water companies, Kura II team members and experts, who reviewed the international best practices on river restoration projects, and the recommended strategy and approaches to be used for the Kura River Basin Restoration projects.
