UNDP-GEF Kura II Project Study Tour to the Sava River Basin Commission Budapest, Hungary | Zagreb, Croatia | Ljubljana, Slovenia 8-12 April 2019

The study trip started from Budapest, Hungary on 8 April, 2019. Within the Study Trip, the UNDP-GEF Kura II Delegation has also been to Zagreb, Croatia and Ljubljana, Slovenia. The team had wonderful presentations on how the International Convention for Protection of the Danube River has grown and flourished with all countries cooperating. The delegation met with the working group leaders for water quality management in the Danube and learned about how countries are working together for flood management, and for managing water quality.
The UNDP-GEF Kura II project Study Tour Delegation had a field trip to the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park as well. A huge bilateral protected area, very valuable flood plain for the Sava River and Ramsar site. This site is in the flood plain the river flows through and when there are floods the whole park is designed to flood, the small villages in the park have some protections built around them, and the whole area can safely flood.
At the Sava River Basin Commission Secretariat the participants have learnt the newest approaches for Transboundary Cooperation and many new ideas have been taking seed.
